Through weeks of development and testing, a new feature to the
KyHam Emergency Communications portion of the web site is now
ready for use. Thanks to the hard work of Tyler Allison, KI4BUM
assisted by our KyHam webmaster, Pat Spencer, KD4PWL.

I am pleased to present to you a Ky ARES Activity Status Board:

http://kyham.net/kyares/active/intro.html

This opening page will provide a tutorial in the use of this new
board and I'll bet that long time EmComm people will immediately
see the benefits of its use. This can serve to inform others
around that state, as well as Boone EOC of the active or drill
status of any ARES or RACES function taking place in the
Commonwealth. What, you say, in disasters phone lines go out and
we can't get on line or don't have time to. It can still be of
help if someone outside the affected area is advised of your
situation, THEY can post it for you. Entry is by the FCC
callsign and zip code (for authentication), of the recording
party, not the area involved. This way we have an audit trail to
show WHO entered that data which is verified by automated
internet access prior to any listing being shown on the page.

A good chance to use this in drill scenarios is upcoming with
tomorrow's storm drill and the Western counties in the earthquake
exercise in the last part of this month. Check it out and see
how this works before you need to use it for real.

Special thanks go to these 2 brilliant amateurs for giving of
their computer skills in developing this useful device for us all.
