COMMENTS:

June did turn out somewhat more sedate than May, however we still
had our run-ins with severe storms at times.

Area 5:

June 12 - SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 445 IN EFFECT UNTIL
500 PM EDT (4:00 PM CDT/EST) from 12:12 PM EDT for 94 Ky
Counties. At 12:50 PM EDT, with a seemingly typical thunderstorm
in progress, no clue was given of the events to come. At 12:55 PM
EDT, KG4LHQ advised via the 146.625 machine of a tornado on the
ground on the east side of Hardinsburg, (county seat of
Breckinridge County, Ky). Tornado was reported headed east along
US 60 at 25 MPH. Sirens sounded in Breckinridge and Meade Couties
of Ky as spotters deploywed to observe. Breckinridge County's
fire department repeater fell silent as the storm moved over the
tower site leaving fire units to work on sinmplex until a back up
unit was activated at the county courthouse with much reduced
range at 4:15 PM. Damage was severe to eight buildings, one
church and a mobile home in Hardinsburg. Extent of damage to the
fire service repeater system repaired in 2 days. Several minor
injuries were reported. No fatalities. Amateur radio speeded
warning and relayed info in and out of the area until phone
service stabilzed and contact was maintained with and info
relayed to the state EOC (KY4EOC) via the 146.700 repeater KY4KY
at Brooks, Ky.

Organization: Wide Area Repeaters Net (WARN)
----------------------

Area 7 EC Dick Wyatt, KY4UK of Pendleton County reports the
following: June 19, 2004, A live field exercise on the School
Response Plan involving all Pendleton County Fire, EMS and
Police Departments. Also involving The Pendleton County School
System, Pendleton County Emergency Management, UC Air Care, CATS
Aeromed and the Red Cross.
------------------------

Area 13 -KD4PWL reports several area amateurs worked the American
Diabetes Association - Walk for the Cure 2004. 12 Amateur radio
operators provided health/safety communications for the event,
which was a "walk-a-thon." Considering the hot and humid
conditions, and the fact that many walkers were diabetic, we were
fortunate to not be needed. We had to watch a few of the
walkers, but everyone completed the course in good condition.

June 17 saw a regional exercises of the Metropolitan Medical
Response System (MMRS) in the Lexington area. Amateurs' role in
the exercise was to provide communications between EOCs,
hospitals and the local airport as medical transport flights
arrived from another city after a terrorist attack.
Provided communications from the tarmac to the hospitals
concerning patients, and destinations. Also provided
communications between hospitals, and EOCs.
