Steve Ewald asks a valid question in this forwarded post and I
have heard little about such involvements from any of you myself
thus far. If anyone is cooperating in these efforts, please let
me know so that Ron Goodpaster and I will be aware of your
involvement in local CERT op's and I will pass this on to HQ by
the deadline below.

Dear ARRL Section Emergency Coordinators,

In June 2003, ARRL signed a Statement of Affiliation with the
Citizen Corps, making ARRL an affiliate organization working with
Citizen Corps and other organizations to promote the goals of
Citizen Corps. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
program is a part of the Citizen Corp, and is described at this
Web page: http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/CERT/.

ARRL President Jim Haynie, W5JBP, is preparing for a trip to
Washington, DC, in February to meet with Citizen Corps
representatives. To help with these preparations, I am compiling
information to find out the status of Amateur Radio participation
in CERT programs in the ARRL sections.

Are any Amateur Radio groups within your ARRL section presently
participating in Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs)?

Are there any Amateur Radio groups within your ARRL section
planning to participate on a CERT or in the process of creating a
CERT?

If you have any other background information to supplement your
answers, I'm sure that would be helpful. Please reply to me by
the end of this month, January 31, 2004.

Also, please reply in any manner convenient to you: direct
e-mail to [email protected], telephone or fax. I'm also sending
this message to the ARRL Section Managers.

Thank you very much.
