The "Introduction to Amateur Radio" class will begin Friday January 23,
2004 in room 163 of the Chemistry Physics Building, University of
Kentucky Campus on Rose Street (Has a silo in front). This class, sponsored
by the Bluegrass Amateur Radio Society, will start at 7PM and end at 9PM.
The first hour we will have discussions of the Rules, Regulation, Operation
Practices and Theory. We will be using the ARRL " Now You're Talking" text
and reference book. These books will be free for young students up thru the
12th grade and will be available for our cost to all others. Morse Code
will be taught during the second hour. If you only want VHF and UHF
privileges you only need to attend the first hour. However, we encourage
all students to try Morse Code because it is much easier than to learn most
people think. If you only need to learn the Morse Code or need a refresher
class you may come at 8PM.
Parking is always difficult at UK, however there are areas available
Friday evenings that are not on the other week day evenings. The most
convenient parking at 7PM is the parking garage across Rose Street just
South of the Chemistry Physics Building. It will be open for the general
public after 4:30PM on Fridays. The easiest way to get to it from the South
is to either take Tates Creek or Nicholasville Rd to either Alumni or
Cooper Drive. Turn Northward onto University Drive and go toward the W.T.
Young Library. At the end of University Drive ( you should be looking right
at the big library building) turn left and follow Hilltop Ave. to the
parking garage. The gates should be open.
