The following request is for the folks in the KY 1st House District. What
we need is for you to write and call and E-mail and visit Rep. Ed Whitfield
to get him to co-sponsor HR 713, our Amateur Radio Spectrum Protection Act.
Our representative on the Hill sent the following note to me so you will
know what we seem to be up against. Whitfield was a co-sponor in the last
Congress, but has not yet signed on during this Congress. Even the folks
who have written already are needed to give a bit more shove!
"On Friday I met with (the) Legislative Assistant for Rep. Ed
Whitfield (R-KY). The Congressman was a cosponsor of the Spectrum
Protection Act last Congress and serves on the Telecomm Subcommittee.
The assistant was up to speed on the bill and had said he's received about a
dozen letters on it. He is new to this issue and was not the staff
person I worked with last time around. The sense I got from him was
that the Congressman was supportive of amateurs, however, I got the
feeling that co-sponsorship was not a high priority for him"
Phone calls might be particularly useful!
Anyone who needs to get up to speed on the bill can find everything they
need at:
http://www.arrl.org/govrelations/arspa-backgrounder.html which give the
background for the need for the bill, and at:
http://www.arrl.org/govrelations/arspa.html#write to see how to make the
contact and points to raise in it.
Tnx, 73,
John D. Meyers, NB4K
