KY QSO Party Moves to April
This year's Kentucky QSO party will be from 1600Z April 24 until 0400Z April
25, 2004. This moves the contest from last year's July date in an effort to
achieve better conditions and a more convenient weekend for operators. The
KY QSO Party is sponsored by the Bullitt Amateur Radio Society with
operations headed by Buddy Sohl, KC4WQ.
Operating modes will be CW, SSB and digital on suggested frequencies: SSB
+/-20KHz from General class band edge, CW 3.55, 7.05, 14.05, 21.05 and 28.05
MHz. RTTY/PSK QSO's count as digital entry. Entries will be SSB only, CW
only, digital only, mixed, or ROVER.
This year's rules are updated to clarify EchoLink operations. Your location
is the location of the transmitted signal. If you are physically located in
California, but using a transceiver via the internet in Virginia, your
location for the contest is Virginia.
The Top Dog Award for the Kentucky club accruing the highest overall points
will be awarded at the Greater Louisville Hamfest on Saturday, September
11th. The trophy is roving because the club only gets bragging rights for
one year and it must be returned to the Louisville Hamfest the following
year for presentation to the new Top Dog club. The 2003 KY QSO Party Top Dog
Award went to the KY Contest Group with a score of 72,696.
In 2003, KY stations appearing in logs were more than doubled from 2002.
Most KY entries, however, did not show a club affiliation. Remember to
carefully read the rules, especially multipliers and submit your entry by
the closing date. Any club wanting to activate KY counties in the rover
class is invited to jump on the band wagon and go. It's a great time and fun
for the whole family.
