Riley Hollingsworth confirmed as banquet speaker!
On the heels of the resounding success of the 2003 Great Lakes Division Conference in Findlay, Ohio (this past September 2003), the 2005 GLD Conference has been announced. The Toledo, Ohio club (TMRA) will host the convention, which will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2005, in conjunction with the Sunday, March 20, 2005, Toledo Hamfest! Both events are held indoors, with the hamfest drawing typically 3,000 hams. Details will be forthcoming, but MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW! FCC Special Counsel for Amateur Radio Enforcement Riley Hollingsworth K4ZDH has confirmed as guest speaker for the banquet for the evening of Saturday, March 19, 2005. Riley will also present a seminar that afternoon. Also, keep in mind that we will also be accepting nominations for the Division level awards: The George S. Wilson III W4OYI Great Lakes Division Award, Great Lakes Division Amateur Of The Year, Great Lakes Division Technical Achievement Award, and the Great Lakes Division Newsletter Award. Vice Director Dick Mondro W8FQT from Dearborn Hts., Michigan will chair the GLD Awards Committee and will send out the awards criteria, procedures and deadlines later this Summer. Brenda Krukowski KB8IUP from Toledo has been appointed as the Convention Manager, and Joe Phillips K8QOE from Cincinnati has agreed to again serve as Seminar Chair (Send your ideas for the presentations you would like to see to Joe!). Jeanie Dalton KB8QLC from Lexington will continue running the Convention Office. Division Director Jim Weaver K8JE, Kentucky SM John Meyers and Michigan SM Dale Williams WA8EFK are also on the GLD Convention Committee. We are looking forward to another GREAT convention, and we want YOU to be a part of it!

Nominations for Division Awards Sought
The Great Lakes Division is asking for nominees for three awards to be presented at the GLD Convention in Toledo, OH in March of 2005. If you are aware of any one you feel meets the following criteria, please enter a nomination. Most assuredly we need to recognize those individuals who do so much to make this the excellent hobby-service it is. Please lend some serious thought as to who may qualify for these awards: 1. George S. Wilson W4OYI Great Lakes Division Award. This award is presented to an outstanding amateur whose lifetime achievement merits recognition for outstanding contributions to the amateur radio service. 2. Amateur of the Year. This award is for outstanding service by a radio amateur during the year preceding the nomination. 3. Technical Achievement Award. This is presented to the outstanding amateur(s) whose technical excellence exemplifies "continuation of the amateur's proven ability to advance the radio art" and who exemplifies the highest dedication to service to others and to science rather than self.
Nominations should include the name, call and address of the nominee as well as a one page statement of support. You may e-mail nominations to Vice Director Dick Mondro W8FQT at arrl.org or mail them to Dick at 800 Dover Drive, Dearborn Hgts., MI 48127. The deadline is February 11, 2005 art 5:00PM. These awards are presented at the discretion of the Awards Committe and Director, not necessarily every year.
