I just thought of a interesting correlation...Should be good for a little 
cannon fodder...lets not get into a OS debate those because it is not 
really on topic on a ham radio listserv...

Repeaters and Computer operating systems...

Having a radio without tone capability is great, having a radio with tone 
capability is great...it is all about what you WANT to do...

Having a DOS only computer is fine...having a Windows XP is fine.  It is 
all about what you WANT to do.  Personally, I loved the DOS days.  I also 
love what computer advancements have brought.  We wouldn't be here on KYHAM 
if it they didn't advance.

You may not be able to take your DOS laptop to a wireless networking area 
and be able to connect to the Internet.  You will have an operating system 
that supports wireless networking to do that.  Technology advances, and has 
its own requirements.  Unfortunately, sometimes you have to buy additional 
equipment to do what you want to do.  From a "working ham's" perspective, 
it's not fun, but...it's all what you want to do.

Fire away, but keep it related to amateur radio!   <grin>
