Good idea Danny!
After a little research, it is NOT hard to put together a Special
Event Station. You just have to have a reason, and a few operators who are
willing to get "out of the house." All of our local communities have
something to celebrate, or share with the world. It doesn't have to be
something major that is listed in the history books. There is a lot of
unpublished history, and local events that deserve recognition.
There is a lot of info on the ARRL site at
http://www.arrl.org/contests/spev.html
If you would like to get a special event callsign, you can go to
http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/1x1.html
Upcoming KY Special Event Stations listed on the ARRL site:
Glasgow, KY:
Mammoth Cave Amateur Radio Club, KY4X. 1600Z-2200Z Oct 7. Commemorating the
140th anniverary of the Civil War battle at Ft Williams. General 40 and 20
m. QSL. Mammoth Cave ARC, KY4X, 213 Trappers Trl, Glasgow, KY 42141.
Hope this helps everyone interested!
Take care, 73,
Pat, KD4PWL
