Winter weather advisory from 3 am to 10 am est Wednesday for
north central kentucky and south
central indiana, including the louisville metro area,
elizabethtown, bardstown, jasper, and
madison, Approaching surface low pressure and a passing jet
stream disturbance will generate
precipitation early Wednesday morning across the region.
Clouds kept temperatures cool during
the day tuesday, and based on the forecast temperature
profile in the low levels of the
atmosphere, a wintery mix of precipitation is possible
across north central kentucky and south
central indiana Wednesday morning. A mix of cold rain and
wet snow should be the primary mode
of precipitation, however there is a possibility that some
light freezing rain or freezing
drizzle may develop as well. Amounts of ice and snow are
expected to be minor, but even minor
amounts could cause some problems. Of concern is that
freezing rain, freezing drizzle, or snow
may occur in and around the morning commute, making the dri!
ve more difficult than usual. Since temperatures remained
below freezing for much of Tuesday,
the ice, sleet, and snow accumulations from the weekend
storm remained on many untreated
secondary roads and parking lots. Any additional
precipitation, even just rain, would make
these particular areas hazardous for driving Wednesday
morning. At this point, plan of the
possibility of delays Wednesday morning if you are
traveling, both by car or air. Stay tuned
to noaa weather radio, local media, or weather.gov on the
internet for further updates and
forecasts as new data are analyzed by national weather
service meteorologists.
