Since the middle 1990's the Kentucky Emergency Net has been a
weekly net held to coordinate the Ky ARES program aside from any
actual activations we have had for drills and real events.
Beginning in January of 2004 with the 1/5/04 net, KEN will have a
somewhat different look. While the weekly Monday evening net is
remaining on the same frequency of 3.888 MHz and the same time
0100 UTC (8 PM EST/7PM CST) the net preamble will change a little
as will the normal order of business.

Since the late 1990's under former SEC KD4PWK, the net has
featured a weekly lecture type, training segment on some topic of
importance to Ky ARES members. As we now have other means of
training (with verified Pass/Fail feedback) such as the ARRL
E-Com Courses and the new 3 part - Ky ARES Condensed E-Com Course
, I feel it is not as imperative to continue the weekly lecture
material we have previous conducted. Instead we will feature
lecture types training material one week per month unless there
is a need to temporarily expand into other weeks for a time.

What, you are wondering is replacing the training on other
weeks?
Below is the tentative schedule of weekly discussion topics:

KEN Tentative 2004 Schedule

1st Monday each month: Discussion of any interesting ARES or
pertinent amateur radio related web sites, books or other
articles anyone has seen or read in the past month. (Come on
folks, tell us about the neat web site you found or the great
magazine article or book you just read with some type of ARES or
Amateur Radio theme.)

2nd Monday of the month: Training Material on ARES related
subjects

3rd Monday of the month: Review of any public service or
emergency activity that occurred the preceding month. Rule of
thumb - Items must have been reported either in the previous
month ARES report or by
PSAR to be eligible for discussion/review.

4th Monday of the month: Monthly Ky ARES (On-The-Air) Section
Meeting to review any upcoming activity, legislation or other
issues that might impact ARES as well as issues from the floor
that need discussion or action.

Any 5th Monday: Open Forum Night (Basically a free net) to
discuss anything on your mind, ARES related or otherwise.

It is hoped that these changes will make the weekly KEN session
more interesting and add more variety to the discussions that
take place.
