I believe that Septemeber 11th is a day that no american will ever =
forget. This day is a time for sadness and a sense of trying to =
understand this simple word: WHY?. Why did this have to happen; why was =
my husband/wife/son/daughter/family relative in that building(s) when it =
happen. Why would a person what to do this to us to kill innocent people =
just trying to make a living. These are all questions that can't be =
answered but I always heard that SOMETHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON. There =
was a reason why this happened? Maybe it was becuase of one evil person =
they wanted to destroy the WTC in New York and the Pentagon and possibly =
The White House in Washington DC. Or maybe it was a sign? Anything is =
possible! When I look back from 9/11/01 to 9/11/02 I see that things =
have really changed. Security is a must now, Preparedness, Respect and =
Friendship. Before 9 11 security wasn't that much of a need becuase =
someone could walk into an airport check their bag and their gone =
loading into the plane in less than 2 minutes. Now a few people are =
asked to take off their shoes becuase of security. Why wasn't we =
prepared not just as a local area but as a nation for something possible =
to happen like this. We have agencies that are supposed to protect us =
and take each piece of information as credible information that may lead =
to something catastropic as in 9 11. There we're even signs that =
something was going to happen but the agencies didn't care or didn't =
feel it was good enough information to see that something could really =
really happen. This nation was definately NOT prepared for this and =
therefore it hurt us. Respect is something I think is plain out =
luduricus. After Sept. 11th, Emergency Services Personnel get thanked =
everyday for their service and bravery. I have a question why wasn't we =
thanked before 9/11. Why does it take a national diaster for us =
Firefighters to earn respect. Why didn't we receive it before? I feel =
that people only care about Firefighters, EMS, Police only when they are =
needed not to be thought about any other time on maybe putting their =
life on the line. I feel really really bothered that no one cared or =
appreciated us until 9-11. What makes us so different now becuase some =
NYC firefighters went into a building to try to save people and lost =
their lives. Why is that so different then a firefighter going into a =
house to try to save someone and dies in the line of duty. Yes there =
will be a funeral and a service remembering him as a person but how and =
why is that different compared to 9-11. They both die in the line of =
duty and one gets talked about more than the other one. Its all the same =
thing from Maine to Hawaii and from Alaska to Florida....Firefighters =
are firefighters either Volunteer or Paid (Career) and they deserve the =
respect that we didn't get before 9-11. Myself being a firefighter on a =
rural part of the county I live in. There was never any services =
honoring local heroes and thanking them for their time and service. Now =
becuase of the attacks there are dedication services all over the place =
here in the county. What does a Emergency Service person feel when they =
don't get thanked and commended on their work not just from a Volunteer =
perspective but as a Career Firefighter also. I feel that since we =
didn't have the respect of people to thank us and commend us on our =
services then why start now? Everyone feels that they should be thankful =
that there are firefighters. WHY WASN'T THEY THANKFUL FOR FIREFIGHTERS =
ON SEPTEMBER 10TH, 2001? What a difference a day makes. As in =
Friendship, many friendships have been created becuase of this and I =
feel that it is ok to meet new friends especially ones that helped each =
other and would kill themselves to help someone else. Friendship is so =
important that everyone has to stick together as a team and not as an =
individual. There is no "I" in the word team its a "WE" job, a regular =
person off the street can be a hero and not be a firefighter, or related =
to emergency services. They deserve just as much credit as firefighters. =
The problem is people doesn't want to just pat someone on the back and =
say "Good Job on a well done accomplishment". Their shy and afraid that =
becuase of todays world with killings everyday that it may happen to =
them. When I refer to Emergency services I am referring to Ham Radio =
Operators also. Guys I have to give you a pat on the back for all the =
hard work and readiness to respond at any time when an emergency comes =
up that requires your assistance. For the families and victims of the =
attacks, I feel for you and really am sorry for that you had to live =
thru but there isn't no difference then a firefighter or someone dying =
to try to be a service for others. The families has taken publicity to =
far and its hurting our country. They beleive that they deserve more =
money becuase my husband died in the terrorist attacks. This is a equal =
country and if a firefighter dies here in Kentucky the family deserves =
just as much money as a world trade center death. Because of this I feel =
that yes September 11th is a sad day but if we don't get on with our =
lives and rebuild america from where it was on September 10th, 2001. =
whomever did the attacks are winning. When america suffers then they are =
winning the fight and its not right. We should get on with our lives and =
do things that you have always wanted to do but never got the chance to =
do it well now here is the chance so go do it. I think that 9/11 should =
be remembered in our lives but not to interfere with how America is =
running on an everyday basis. Thats how I feel from a 17 year old's =
perspective
I know this is off the subject of what is supposed to be discussed but I =
feel that I had to write that and express what I feel.=20
