A new doppler weather radar to serve the Tri-State area is under
construction at a site near Owensville, IN. The construction was marked by
a groundbreaking ceremony at the site Saturday September 14, 2002.
Installation is scheduled to be completed January, 2003. The radar is
scheduled to be in service January 18, 2003.
An $8.7 million contract to construct and install the radar was
awarded to Enterprise Electronics Corporation of Enterprise, Alabama in
September 2001. The new radar will replace one currently leased by the
National Weather Service that is located at the Evansville Regional Airport.
Data from the Tri-State Radar (KVWX) will be used by National
Weather Service Forecast Offices in Paducah and Louisville, KY; St. Louis,
MO; Lincoln, IL; and Indianapolis, IN.
Take care,
Pat, KD4PWL
