Dear KY Ham:

The October QST devotes a single obscure column to a call for nominations
for several Section Managers including KY. Many readers may have missed it.

The following nomination petition is from the ARRL website

http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/org/smterms.html#sample

SAMPLE
To all ARRL members in the Arizona, Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi,
Montana, North Texas, Orange, and Wyoming Sections. You are hereby solicited
for nominating petitions pursuant to an election for Section Manager (SM).
To be valid, a petition must contain the signatures of five or more full
ARRL members residing in the section concerned. Photocopied signatures are
not acceptable. No petition is valid without at least five signatures, and
it is advisable to have a few more than five signatures on each petition.
Petition forms (FSD-129) are available on request from ARRL Headquarters but
are not required. We suggest the following format:
(Place and Date)
Field & Educational Services Manager, ARRL
225 Main St
Newington, CT 06111
We, the undersigned full members of the ______ ARRL section of the ______
division, hereby nominate ______ as candidate for Section Manager for this
section for the next two-year term of office.
(Signature ______ Call Sign ______ City _____ ZIP ______)
Any candidate for the office of Section Manager must be a resident of the
section, a licensed amateur of Technician class or higher and a full member
of the League for a continuous term of at least two years immediately
preceding receipt of a petition for nomination. Petitions must be received
at Headquarters by 4 PM Eastern Time on December 8, 2000. Whenever more than
one member is nominated in a single section, ballots will be mailed from
Headquarters on or before January 2, 2001, to full members of record as of
December 8, 2000, which is the closing date for nominations. Returns will be
counted February 20, 2001. Section Managers elected as a result of the above
procedure will take office April 1, 2001.
If only one valid petition is received from a section, that nominee shall be
declared elected without opposition for a two-year term beginning April 1,
2001. If no petitions are received from a section by the specified closing
date, such section will be resolicited in the April 2001 QST. A Section
Manager elected through the resolicitation will serve a term of 18 months.
Vacancies in any Section Manager's office between elections are filled by
the Field & Educational Services Manager. You are urged to take the
initiative and file a nomination petition immediately.
The SM candidate acceptance form is at:
http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/org/FSD-191.pdf

It is not the writers intention to imply that any current SM is not
qualified. It is the writers belief that a SM candidate should have
qualifying experience such as serving as SM, ASM, STM, etc.

Likewise, a Candidate for Director should have qualifying experience such as
SM, Vice Director, etc. A candidate with little experience and a platform
that may only address how the DXCC countries list is determined may lack the
view and experience that Directorship requires.

Likewise, it is important for all ARRL members to keep in mind that by
joining, they are not subscribing to a magazine; they are members of the
only national organization that represents and actively defends the Amateur
Radio Service.
