The quake this afternoon is a reminder of the risk we face
from earthquakes in this region and the need to be prepared
for them. This quake, a 5.0 on the Richter scale centered
near Darmstadt, Indiana is the first along the Wabash Valley
Fault system since the one near Laweranceville, Il in June
of 1987. While we typically think of the New Madrid System
as being our main threat, this underscores the ability of
the Wabash Valley, Sharpsburg and others to also affect our
area.
All amateurs who plan to be of assistance in the aftermath
of major quakes should use this as an excuse/reminder to
again rethink your preparedness planning at home and in the
community. To assist in this, I am postponing the training
that HAD BEEN on the schedule for KEN in July and will again
review Earthquake threat and planning info over the next
several weeks for KEN and other nets to use.
