[KL7AA] IOTA Alaska

Hello group,

Has anyone on the list ever done an IOTA activation here in Alaska? I've
never been involved in IOTA, but I'm thinking it might make a good
replacement for my SOTA activities during the winter months.

Looking on the IOTA databases I can see that most of the groups up here
have been activated before. A lot of groups look like they would be
relatively easy to do (Fire Island and the sheltered groups in Prince
William Sound, for example).

Stuff like that could make for fun club activities as well. Call it a "stay
at home dxpedition", if you will. With field portable gear, batteries, and
an (appropriately bribed) local ham with a boat that could make for a
pretty fun day of operating. It would also be a great outreach event for
working with groups like the boy scouts (JOTA), or teaching field emergency
operations
