The Amateur Station on Ft Wainwright is now KL7FWA. Known as the Fort
Wainwright Amateur Radio Club.
Update is posted at QRZ so its effective now.
Mike AL7F, tells me they expect to be on the air shortly. They are still
awaiting the last piece of paper to be signed off by the administration
on the Army Post.
They have an Icom 756ProII as part of the donated gear from the Army.
Its actual status is unknown just yet. Last word I had with those folks
on Post a few years ago was that radio had a dead display. I do not
know if they fixed it prior to shutting the station down.
Also on hand is the Harris RT-1446/URC 119 (radio and 1kw amp). Mike is
looking for documentation on that gear. if you have copies of the
manuals let Mike know at "patperry at gci.net". He knows to look for free
copies online. I hope he finds an experienced Military Comm op up there
to bring them up to speed on the Harris. Not exactly a Ham friendly
piece of gear.
Again if you have anything that they might need let Mike know, remember
they are almost starting from scratch since the Army tossed most of the
former MARS station books and assorted stuff. Yes he has resources
available up there, but we may have someone here who has a history with
the gear that can help them figure out how to use it.
Ron, KL7YK
