Is anyone out there working on preparing their own personal go-kits?

What are some of the thoughts and ideas you are thinking about as you
begin to collect items for your kit? Are you going VHF only. Voice?
Digital? Both? Is HF being considered? What kind of antenna or
antennas do you plan to pack into your kit? How are you going to
address power for the radios and accessories?

Have you give consideration to your need for food, shelter, sleeping bag
or blankets, medicines? We may need to be self sufficient for the first
few days and don't want to be a burden on the people we support any more
than is necessary.

How about sharing your thoughts on this group mail reflector?

One source for information can be found at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Radio_Jump_Kits/
There are messages, discussions, files and photos.

Another way to get tons of info is to Google or Bing
    ares go-kits
    ares jump-kits
    amateur radio jump-kits
You get the idea.

Looking through the pages that come up can be lots of fun and certainly
interesting. They will spur on your creative thoughts.

I encourage you to be ready to support your community in a way that
maximizes your ability and capability. Consider starting your go-kit or
at least upgrading your home station to stay on the air in a major
emergency.

Good luck,

73, Jim
