The Elmendorf Amateur Radio Society is sponsoring an Entry Level class on
Elmendorf FB at the Education Center building 4109 in room 134.

The class will run Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-9 pm. Books while
not required will be available at cost.

The ARRL Q&A Tech Manual contains the material you will need to study to
complete the course. Last class night will be testing session as well.

Morse Code is no longer required to testing to gain your FCC Amateur
License, that said I hope some of you pursue the ability anyway. CW is
still a very valuable method of sending traffic.

The Class will cover the fundamentals you need to know and the practices and
governing policies that apply to you as a New Ham. RF Safety and electrical
safety are a large part of the requirements you will be trained on.

A wide degree of experience will be on hand assist the student with concepts
they may have never heard of before.

This is NOT CB radio. Amateur Radio is the technical study and
experimentation with RF. We are not broadcasters we are communicators. You
must demonstrate a degree of technical ability and understanding of what Ham
Radio is before you can get your license. This course will teach those
concepts and demonstrate the process to the student.

Ham Radio covers a large chunk of radio real estate was well. As a
Technician License Holder you will be authorized to use radios in the 50-55
MHz area or 6 meters, 144-148 MHz or 2 meters, 223-225 or 1.24 meters, 440
MHz or 70cm UHF, 902mhz or 33cm, and even 1296 MHz or 23cm SUHF. It goes on
but these are the most common.

As a Tech you can talk to Low Earth Orbiting Satellites or LEO's. You can
with some effort do Earth-Moon-Earth and even Meteor Scatter!

Lots of possibilities for the new Ham. There are groups and clubs for
whatever your interest takes you.

So there you have it, so if you're interested in Ham Radio sign up and join
us on the 18th in the Ed Center Building, Room 134 at 6pm. At this time the
ARRL Q&A Tech Manual will run about $18 a copy, that's what we are charged.

There will be a limited number of copies available the first night.

Questions should be sent to club at kl7air.us or voice messages can be left at
552-2664.

We are working on a sponsor for the books waiting on word if that will pay
off or not. You can always order you manual in advance through ARRL.org or
Amazon.com, but Amazon is selling them cheaper by a couple of dollars.

Bring a couple of pencils or a favorite pen and a note book to class for
notes. This is not a fast race though a ton of material, the class is paced
to allow everyone to understand and stay up with the rest of the class.
Some folks are ready to test after only one week, others take their time and
learn much much more for the effort.

Remember, above all the hype. This is a HOBBY not a RELIGION! No one
started on the top. We got there through hard work and enjoyed getting to
the finish line.

Thanks to Doug Myers for stepping up and doing this, if you are a ham and
want to help. Come on by and lend a hand. Can't have too many helpers.

Hope to see a good gathering on the 18th of October at the Base Education
Center!\\
