Hello again;
It's still Bastille Day and we are seeking even more volunteer
communicators; this time to help with the 2004 (Anchorage) Dog Jog,
Saturday, July 24. The dogs jog from 1000 - 1400 at Kincade Park, but we
can also use a few stalwart souls starting at about 0730 Saturday
morning; this early crew will set up a portable repeater and assist in
distributing supplies to the trail checkpoints, and at least one pickup
truck would be very helpful for the early crew.
Anchorage amateur radio operators have supported the Dog Jog for several
years now and it is a very pleasant, low pressure event. You'll need, at
minimum, a 70cm handheld and whatever else you'll need or want (don't
forget insect repellant) for about 5 hours in the 'wilds' of the Kincade
Park trails, regardless of the weather. It is desirable (but not
required) for all amateur communicators to have basic first-aid training
and equipment.
TJ Sheffield, KL7TS, is organizing the amateur communications support.
You can volunteer via email to kl7ts at arrl.net, or I'll be happy to pass
along your information; my contact info is at the bottom of this
message. Please let us know as soon as possible.
Thanks for your continuing support of the Amateur Radio Service by
participating in these public service events. By contributing your time,
skills and assets you not only make our town a more amusing and safe
place to live, but provide an on-going justification for the very
existence of the Amateur Service.
Thanks and 73,
phil
