Ladies and Gentlemen,

The executive summary:

I need someone to take over responsiblity for a repeater. I am leaving
Alaska for about three years.

The details:

Most of you probably know that I have provided for the care and feeding of
the 145.49 repeater that lives at about mile 17.2 on the Petersville road
near Trapper Creek, at Vilma Anderson's (NL7YK) house.

The repeater works just fine, has battery power/wind generator courtesy of
the Anchorage Amateur Radio Club, etc. It covers a fairly remote part of
the Parks Highway, and has been responsbile for a few highway rescues, one
in the middle of the winter. It has the potential to be linked into
Anchorage, and was part of the Anchorage to Fairbanks link at one time.

Due to my upcoming assignment to Mississippi, I will no longer be able to
maintain this repeater until I return. Although I wanted to get up to the
repeater site to remove my callsign from the repeater and put Vilma's on
there, I have not been able to, nor will I likely be able to before I leave.
I depart on the 20th of this month, and the movers will be here on the 10th.
Not much time....

So, I have a couple of options. I can call up Vilma and have her turn off
the repeater for the next few years until I return. I can have a
technically-competent volunteer reconfigure the CWIDer for Vilma's call
(which she has already agreed to do). Or, I could have someone that is
technically competent take over the care and feeding of the repeater.

I have most of the boards for this Motorola Micor Compa-Station repeater,
along with the manuals for the repeater and the CWIDer. Any modifications I
have done are minimal, and are documented in the notes for ease of
maintenance. The bottom line is I must have these supplies to whoever
agrees to maintain it by 9 September.

I have asked a few folks already, but no takers. I would like to see the
machine continue to operate but if it must be, I'll have Vilma turn it off.

Any takers can e-mail me or call my home, 373-7880 in the valley, or at work
on Elmendorf at 552-1056.

Thanks for your consideration of this proposal.

John/AA0NN
