Dennis:

Noted a question on this rig re: buzzer voltage some years ago.

Did anyone ever respond with what the "buzzer" is on the TS940S?

I haven't a clue!

Also an stymied by reference on p 50 of manual that advises adjusting RV voltage to 2.1 v with VR-1. Can't find a definition of "VR" let alone where the instruction book would have me measure the voltage.

You may have moved on to other rigs, but it would be very helpful if you happen to recall these arcane Kenwood moments!

Ladies and Gentlemen, A question regarding the TS-940S. On the I.F. board there are three adjustments accessable through the bottom case for Sidetone, Beep Volume, and "Buzzer". I've searched both the operators manual and service manual but found no clue. What is the "buzzer" and what does it do? In exchange for that info, I offer the following - please excuse if this has been posted before as I did not scan the archives. If the TS-940S looses receive in USB/LSB and FSK modes, but is fine in CW and AM modes, check the following. There are two electrolytic caps on the bottom of the I.F. board that are "glued" to the board for stability. This glue can eat through the circuit board tracks over time. One of those tracks supplies "switched DC" for the buffer amp Q14 via diode D67. The eaten track will result in "open" ohm meter reading between cathodes of D64/D67. Restoring continuity of this circuit board track will restore SSB/FSK receive operation. Thanks to all, dennis
