Yes!

Several years ago I had a TS-140s and I used a 9 volt battery and a 
potentiometer, maybe 5 or 10k? into the ALC input. It worked great. See 
what you can find on a search. I did find one thing, but have yet to 
find the diagram. I may have it in a file somewhere.
