[Kenwood] Kenwood Digest, Vol 119, Issue 3

I have a frustrating problem with my TS-930S. The serial number is  
3,106,xxx. However, it has a modern Phoenix Contact Quint 24-29.5 @10 amp (15  amp 
boost) power supply in it, and that part works perfectly. Here's the  
problem, and what I know so far.
 
I was in the middle of a QSO with a station in Latvia when the other OP  
started asking "W3AFC, are you still there? I thought conditions had changed  
suddenly, because my "On Air" light was still working when I keyed the mike, 
but  the output was zero. Voltage was 28.0 VDC. Ic, ALC, PWR, and 
everything  else except compression was (still is) zero. So here's where I am so far:
 
1. Receive is perfect.
2. The "ON AIR" light come on when I key the mike, use a key, switch to  
TUNE mode, etc.
3. All front panel functions operate as is nothing is wrong. VFO's are  
great.
4. When I turn the rig on, THERE IS NO VOLTAGE ON THE PRIMARY COIL OF THE  
"DRV-XVT" relay.  
     So the path from the signal board to the DRV  terminal is open 
(default, or "no voltage", is Transverter.But 
     voltage is present at connector J32 which feeds  that circuit, and 
transistors Q88 and Q89 test normal.
5. BOTH A SCOPE AND AN RF PROBE SHOW 3.5 - 4.5 RF Volts at the  
DRV-Transverter relay contacts.
    However, that voltage is not present at the transverter  socket, which 
makes no sense unless the relay
     contacts are bad.. 
6. Bypassing the RF volts to the DRV cable has no effect because whatever  
circuit is keeping voltage from 
    reaching the relay coil is also shutting off something  in the the PA 
unit. 28 volts is in the PA where it 
    should be. I suspect that involves the 3-wire  "TX-18V-TXC" connector, 
but 18 volts DC is present on the
    center terminal and 18 volts is coming back at the  "TH" terminal to 
the Low pass Filter.
 
I've done all the standard "it's a Kenwood" things like unplugging various  
connectors, cleaning the contacts with DeOxit Gold, and plugging them back 
in.  But that didn't help.
 
If I could feed those 3.5-4.5 RF volts to my TS-830S, or the driver stage  
of one of my Swan 700's, I would do that and just use this 930S as a 
head-end.  The modulation is perfect. I know, I already have watched it on a scope 
and  heard it though my other rigs.
 
So, what I have appears to be a protection issue in the PA, the Digital  
Board, or the LPF boards. 
 
Any suggestions, before I tear all my hair out?
