OK. One more time: the digital readout in my TS-820S has crapped
out...again.
What is the usual reason for this, and how does one go about fixing
it?
As I remember it (dangerous at my age) the reason is poor connections
at the various sockets, and one must open the rig, remove the
appropriate boards, and clean or DeOxit the connections.
Is this all there is to it?
Lasly, I find that the digital readout is slightly inaccurate in that
it reads higher than the true frequency, and this gets worse as one
goes to higher bands. It is off by almost 3 KHz on 10 meters.
Is there an easy adjustment for this, and where is it?
BTW, I bought this rig from a seller who frequents this forum as a
backup to my TS-940SATs. I have been VERY pleased with it, and
continue to be very grateful to the seller for selling it to me.
I recently bought a new rig-to-remote-VFO cable for it from Ken K4EAA
and his Kenwood Hybrids web site. After I made that up and installed
it, my remote VFO now works perfectly.
I also bought his complete capacitor-replacment kit, and intend to
install those as soon as I have one of my TS-940s back in operation
(AVR board).
I highly recommend Ken's services.
