Another clue:

Whenever I have reduced the PACTOR signal input so that I reach the 160 mA IP I prefer, 
and the ALC reading falls to within the "ALC" "safe" region, PEP power output is around 50 
watts.

When I use the mic, no matter where I have set the mic gain control, the maximum PEP 
power output I can achieve is 50 watts.

I can easily tune to 225 mA IP in CW and power output is easily 100 to 110 watts.

I am confused??????????????????
