[Kenwood] TS-820S and ALC - more

Found something which seems very odd to me: I use this rig for PACTOR with a PK-232MBX
TNC. The PK-232 has solid-state switching built into it.

When I connect the audio/switching lead through a 4 pin mic connector to the mic input of the
TS-820 and fire up PACTOR, the ALC meter starts out pegged, but slowly falls towards zero.
At the same time, IP increases slowly, and I have to keep backing the mic gain off in order to
stay at 160 mA IP which is where I want it to be.

Finally, the ALC reading falls to about 1/8" inside the "safe"zone, and stays there, while IP
stays at 160 mA. The mic gain control is at 1.

Yet I cannot duplicate this activity with either microphone I use (two of them) and I have wired
all three mic connectors the same way.
