[Kenwood] TS-430S Keying Problem

Joe,

Is your power supply capable of 20A continuous?   Does this problem happen
only in CW or in SSB also?  I used to have a TS-430 and I ran it from
an Astron RS20A.  It is rated 16A continuous not 20A. IIIRC the lights used
to blink when I used CW on full power but was OK in SSB because of the
reduced duty cycle. The TS-430 manual specifies 20A on transmit.

If the PS puts out 20A continuous then look at the power cord connectors on
the cable and the rig.  If those Molex female terminals spread a bit then
the connection develops a voltage drop across the poor connection.  If it
gets bad enough the heat melts the plastic housing of the connector.

Check the the fuses in the power cable.  Be sure the clamps that hold each
end of the fuse are clean and tight.
