I was an IT professional for 31 years, so I may be able to shed some rather 
unhelpful light on this issue. 

Win 7 does some very strange things with USB ports. As an example, our 
youngest son has a Win 7 machine. He asked to borrow our MicroSoft USB 
webcam, which has worked just fine on our XP machine. He also has both 
USB keyboard and mouse. As soon as he plugged the camera into one of 
his extra USB ports, ALL his USB ports, except one of a couple on the front 
of his machine, competely shut down. He had to unplug the AC cord and let 
the computer sit for some time, before they would reactivate. Even turning 
the power supply off with the switch on the back didn't help.

Many of us have not yet gotten all that sort of thing sorted out. You might do 
an extensive search on the web for your particular problem. Surprisingly, I 
have also found doing a search on youtube for the same things to be of 
assistance in such events.

You may have to reword your search criteria several times to get what you 
want.

In any case, I am not aware of any of us who have discovered the proper 
incantations to help this particular problem. It will probably only be solved 
when MS spits out a proper update...eventually.
