[Kenwood] MC-60A

This may be news to no one but it is sure news to me. Even thought I have never seen anything in writing about this the MC-60A does not need batteries if it hooked up to a Kenwood transceiver. No where in the directions of the mic does it say this? My friend is using one on a TS-2000 without batteries and when he throws the switch he gets louder!!!! It is weird to me that this fact is not written in the directions?
