Go to www.arrl.org and look up "Numbered Radiograms". These are a fairly 
easy way for radio ops who handle a lot of third-party traffic to pass routine 
messages. In the "check" (the count of words in the TEXT) if one of these 
numbered radiograms is intended, the word count is preceded by the letters 
ARL. I.e. ARL9 for a text that contains one of the numbered radiograms and 
some other words.

For instance, 73 means "Best Regards" and has been used as such for well 
over 100 years. And since 73 MEANS "Best Regards" it is NEVER followed 
the letter "S", because that would mean "Best Regardses". So never say 
"73s".
