Hi Bill,

I am assuming you are running the T-599 stand alone. If it tunes up ok
at the bottom of 40 meters and has nothing at all on the other bands you
should check to see if the heterodyne crystals for the other bands are
working. Use a receiver that will cover the heterodyne crystal
frequencies (or a frequency counter) to check those. If they aren't
oscillating it may be a simple tweak to one of the coils for each dead
band or might be a dead crystal.

Second, the bandpass filter that is in the 8 MHz region is probably
misaligned...peaked for the low end of each band instead of being spread
across the entire band. A CW only op may have done that to it to "get
by". That will need a swept oscillator and scope to align or a lot of
patience. Kenwood recommends the sweep alignment only. It's in the
manual. You DO have a manual? 

It sounds like somebody had a vigorous screwdriver in that transmitter.
Let us know what you find about the heterodyne oscillators.
