Hi Guys,
The Microphone Potentiometer for my TS-950SDX seems to be shot. I get no
audio out unless I turn the Mic gain control fully clockwise then it
distorts. Previously never had to set it pass the 9 O'clock position to get
full clean audio output.
I figured the Pot was Oxidized so I removed it, sprayed a lot of DeOxit into
it, worked back and forth lots of times, blew out the excess DeOxit,
reinstalled it and it worked fine for a few weeks, then acted up again. I
repeated the above procedure and it worked fine again for another few
weeks, its now acting up again. I certainly don't want to have to
keep removing it every few weeks. I feel sure it will eventually get to the
point where the DeOxit won't clean it any longer.
I checked Kenwood Parts only to find it's a discontinued item. I'm sure
there are tons of 10K Potentiometers out there, but the $64 question is,
where will I find one that will fit the TS950SDX? The first answer would
be from an old SDX that has been damaged and cannibalized for parts but
still has the Mic Pot. Is there anyone in the group that might have such an
SDX and willing to sell it? Kenwood sold it for $22.00 when it was
available. The Kenwood Part number is R24-3406-05.
Your assistance would be vey much appreciated.
