[Kenwood] [KenwoodTS-2000] TS2000 and duplexer problem

Someone suggested trying it into a dummy load and this is definitely the
first test. And sweep each band with a wattmeter for fwd/refl power and make
a chart. Should be relatively flat, at least within the specs of the
diplexer.

Beyond that, your problem sounds like cable/connector issue, either actual
feedline or maybe the cable/connectors on the diplexer.

Sounds like your diplexer is installed inside? If instalkled on the tower, I
think the commercial units need additional weatherproofing...unless the box
is sealed with silicone, and the cables/connectors wrapped with butyl rubber
+ tape, or enclosed in a NEMA box, I think over time Mother Nature is gonna
creep into the device.

I use a Diamond unit and it works fine, loss is fractions of a dB, but it's
inside the shack and not exposed to the elements. I'd be leery of mounting
it outdoors without additional weatherproofing.

Typical specs are ~ 0.2dB loss @ 144 MHz, so what you report is almost 3dB
on 2M, so the problem has gotta be something end-to-end in the diplexer.

I have a somewhat similar problem. I am using my Kenwood TS2000 with a
Cushcraft A270-10S dualband yagi. Since it uses a common feedline for both
bands, I use a duplexer at the rig end to accommodate the separate antenna
jacks for 2m and 70cm. This is where the problem occurs. With the duplexer
in line, the power on 2m drops to 60 watts out-I assume due to the rig
seeing a high SWR on that band. With the duplexer gone and feeding the
antenna straight to the 2m jack, it is putting out full power on 2m. I have
tried 2 different duplexers and have the same problem with both of them.

Anyone else see this problem with their TS2000 or have any ideas?

Sorry for wasting your time. Just noticed the signal level
changed when going from forward to reverse on the swr meter.
Taking it out of the line seems to have eliminated the problem.
