[Kenwood] R-820 display problem

Clif and all who responded to my message...  Thanks very much for your 
advice on how to cure the least significant digit problem with the 
receiver's frequency display.  I studied the display info in the TS-820S 
service manual and then went looking for cold solder joints on the 
counter board.  I resoldered several suspicious looking joints, 
reassembled the counter assembly, then tested.  The problem was gone. 

But then the display exhibited a most significant digit(s) problem when 
first turned on and for a minute or two.  Following your advice again, I 
examined the counter mixer board for cold solder joints.  After 
resoldering several possible cold joints and soldering a wire through a 
bleak-looking via, I reassembled and tested.  At last the display works 
as intended.  What joy!

Now to make a transceive cable to connect the receiver to the TS-820S.  
Thanks to all who responded and especially Clif KA5IPF.  I strongly 
agree with Chris G3VBL that we on this list are fortunate to have Clif 
generously advising us on what to do and not do to put our Kenwood gear 
back on the air.
