I would consider just drilling a small hole and using a spray type cleaner as a first step, because a hole like that is relatively easy to re-seal afterwards, with some tape or a dab of non-acidic RTV. If this fixes it, you're finished.

Only if that proves inadequate would I enlarge the access enough to get a thin strip of clean paper in between the contacts to mechanically clean them You can either use a dremel (but this will create plastic shavings or dust) or a hot soldering iron (harder to make a neat opening) to enlarge the access port. Soak the paper in the cleaning compound of your choice, get it between the contacts and close them on it and gently pull it out. Repeat with dry, clean paper till it comes out with no marks and no cleaning compound residue.
