Hi Guys:

So far some good thoughts.  I will not do anything until some time 
passes and more thoughts.

If necessary I have made a small cutting tool from high strength steel ( 
a timber ring-shank nail) to gradually peel out small width "trench" 
line cuts in the plastic cover.  Object being to create a small window, 
later to be covered over with tape  Some slight vacuum suction will be 
nearby in case of dust or chips.

Sound OK for that option?  You can guess, being a civil engineer and not 
electronic engineer I  long ago forgot any electronics I knew (age 81).  
I do have test gear that I may have to utilize.
