Nick,
Whether a direct hook up will work or not I can not answer. However, I
myself have always used an isolation relay between my radio and amplifiers.
Most of your older amplifiers keying circuits used 110 volts AC to pull in
the TX relay in the amp. Modern radios are not designed to handle this high
voltage as only small switching transistors are now used. Tom, W7WHY has it
correct. Build a small 12v relay in a box with wires to connect from your
radio to your amp. Use the radio keying circuit to pull in the relay and
the relay contacts to pull in the amps keying circuit. The cost is minimal
and the protection is well worth a few bucks.
