[Kenwood] 3SK22 replaced by NTE222 Question ???

Hi Bill,

I no longer remember what transistor I used for the replacement in mine
(many years ago). I do recall rearranging the leads as you describe.
Instead of simply crossing the two offending leads and leaving the
others alone I give them all a 'twist' with the two are out of position
more twist. The effect is to leave more clearance between the leads.
Mine has been working without trouble since the early 80s.

Another post suggests that a true substitute does not require this.
That's true as far as it goes but Yankee ingenuity can still get you off
the hook. As long as the electrical characteristics otherwise meet the
requirements just do whatever you need to do. I do things like that all
the time and I'm getting away with murder here. The manufacturer can't
do things like that and keep the price of the new unit down. Yours and
mine are *NOT* new.
