[Kenwood] Possible replacement for SM-220?

I took a look at it and frankly it didn't inspire confidence.  I think  
the current production run has been sold but more important were all  
the caveats to the effect that you have to have some computer  
debugging skills.   Of course you have to have a PC too, which if you  
don't already have, i.e. a Windows machine, that's another expense.    
I know the SM220 is old technology and all that, but it has this much  
gg for it, you plug it in, hook it up, turn it on and it works.   This  
is one of the reasons why I've hung on to my old gear, my 870, 1KMP Mk  
V etc. instead of going for one of the new SDR rigs.
