Well, in my generation we used to say "bummer"....because I definitely paid someone's wages for a day or so with all the various potions I bought from them.

What got me started looking into these compounds is not a Kenwood rig, but a somewhat uncommon Yaesu FT-51 dualband handheld, and my venerable Tungsten T3 PDA. The former is a wonderful rig which is crippled by battery connectors that move axially, instead of laterally, and hence have no wiping action, plus the contacts have the cross section of a large sewing needle. What engineer came up with that inane design?!? The thing was always turning itself off with the slightest movement of the battery case, plus the pins slowly ate away at the gold-plated pads they are supposed to contact - try passing an ampere or so of current through something like that on tx, and you'll quickly see a snowball effect as it sparks and sputters...

 The T3 uses the standard Palm connector on the cradle, and over time the pads there have also become corroded. The deOxit products have certainly helped a bad situation, but had I known about Stabilant I would probably have gone for that, since I was looking to improve conductivity, not just clean and protect dirty contacts.

Most of the deOxit stuff I got is in little bottles with needle applicators and no additional solvents, though I did get one spray can of their standard cleaner with the "flammable" solvent for those pots and switches you just can't get into.

I never used DeOxit on anything prior to purchasing it last week.    I sprayed a bit of it in a small Petri dish, then tried it on a connector and decided I didn’t like the looks of it and will not bother to use it.  I have the stuff marked GN5 and DN5.  It says quick dry on the can, but it surely leaves a heavy residue.
 
I was using the Stabilant on automotive connectors that are much the same as the board to cable connectors inside the TS-940 and most other electronics equipment.  The automotive connectors I am referring to  are contaminant and moisture sealed and are used for signal level devices in the car’s onboard emission computer system. Do not confuse my mention of automotive connectors with the cables on the lead acid batteries, that’s a can of worms of a different type.  ;o)
 
The hard part about comparisons is the MSDS for DeOxit shows the major ingredient as “Trade Secret”, so you will have to divine how it works from its reactive, oxidizer, etc properties.  http://store.caigcom/app/site/media/sitemedia.nl/id.908/.f

I too would like to know how each is really working.  All I can tell you is the Stabilant 22 does work AS ADVERTISED as proven to me over 9+ years of use.

Most of the formulations of deOxit that I bought are not in spray cans, so I don't get the foamy-ness that you mentioned. Could it be that the surfaces you are spraying it onto ( I think you said automotive) are so contaminated that the chemical cleaning action of the deOxit is actually so active that it foams? I've had this happen when I use bicarbonate of soda solution to clean up around lead-acid batteries (of course I'm careful....).
 
I would love it if someone could explain the chemistry behind both classes of products, so I could better choose which is appropriate for what situations. All the documentation on the deOxit site is very consumer-oriented, so I'm still not sure when to use "Gold" and when to use "Shield". My guess is that all the products have something that is reactive with common metalic oxides, and some other molecule that will bond with non-oxidized metallic surfaces, and some kind of lubricant that disperses over the surface to block out atmospheric air. If this is true, I'd bet the different formulations just have different proportions of the various components.
 
Any chemists here who can enlighten us?

I too would like some real comparisons on the two materials.
 
I have both and the DeOxit stuff is a foamy treatment that leaves a sticky film on anything it is sprayed on. I used it on a  couple of contacts and then cleaned it off because of the consistency of the material.  The Stabilant is a thin liquid, not a coating.
 
I have problems with the thick coating, to me it is like using a grease on a contact, it may keep water and corrosion out, but at what sacrifice to contact integrity.  In my personal and professional lives I have used the stabilant and found it to cure and prevent contact related problems.  
 
Your mileage will vary…

Does anyone have comparative, anecdotal experience with using Stabilant as opposed to the deOxit line of products, of which I've just laid in what I hope is a lifetime supply, considering their prices!

I want to thank John @ LPC Wireless for helping with my USB & LSB trouble on my TS-940S. He was the only one that knew how to fix it. It turned out to be the Digital A board. Unplugging each plug then plugging them all back in fixed it. Also I found out it fix the SSB Slope Turn control which was to be my next fix so got 2 in 1.
