You need to short pins 8 and 9 of the Ext VFO plug to work in the
absence of a VFO. If you have the manual, the diagram is on Page 8. A
description of the set up is on Page 15.
I've attached a couple of extractions from a PDF version of the manual
in case you don't have it. If you don't have it, let me know off line
and I'll see about getting the full PDF to you.
