The VR-VSF trim pot adjusts the output of the finals.  The '850 uses two 2SC2879's in push-pull and each is rated for 125W.  It's possible to push the '850 over 150 watts, but linearity drops once you get over about 110-120, depending on the specific radio.  Most suggest you set it no higher than 100W, the rated spec of the '850, lest you run into the splatter police.

I haven't been "under" my '850 in a while, but, IIRC, with the radio upside-down and the front facing you, VR-VSF was near the back panel either near the left/right center or more towards the right of the PC board.  I think it is accessible via the filter door, but I could be wrong.

One last thing...I think there's also a switch that limits the output to 50w for JA stations - make sure this switch is off.

Hello.   Have a TS-850.   I am getting about 88 to 90 watts output on most of the bands.  Using CW into a proper dummy load with an accurate meter.   

Would this be considered normal?
Is there an easy way to increase the output to 100 watts?
