[Kenwood] Sub Display lamps tsd940...memory battery work

To Joseph and Ralph with regards to the display lamps.
I do have several varieties of the grain of wheat bulbs.
The Display lamps are shorter in length, as the bulbs
exit the display board the leads are bent at 90 degree's
and solder directly to the display circuit board.
I stripped off the shrink plastic off of one grain of wheat bulb
and bent the leads, they were still too long.
The diameter of the display bulbs are a bit smaller than 
some of my wheat bulbs, I'd picked up some wheat
bulbs at a swap and they will slide in the hole ok but just to long.
The display lamps are also green in color, color no sweat
if I can get something to work.
These lamps have no markings on them for ID.

The display is a two piece affair or maybe 3.
You have the display, a metal rectangular plate with
spacer bushings that the display screws to, this plate
is attached to what I assume is the driver board.
There is a hole at each end of the display board that the
lamps go into, because of the metal mounting plate just above the
display circuit board there is not enough clearance for a normal
length wheat bulb.
I even tried some model rail road lamps.
I even thought about laying the wheat bulbs sideways and
silicon rubber them in place, but they are thicker than the
clearance between the display and mounting plate allows. 
A possibilty might be to take the metal plate off of the driverboard
and drill holes that allow the wheat bulbs to come through and
then I may think I could snake the leads around and solder them
to the the display board.
I saw on Kenwood East that this display is still available at 100+,
thats a high price for lamps....so may try the Mickey Mouse method.
Another thing is if you ever have to go through this, the leads from
the display board go to a large plug on the display driver board
and this disconnects the display completly....don't do what I tried to do,
is disconnect from the display, won't go.

Another thing I decided to do was to inspect the Memory Battery and ck
its voltage....it was showing signs of leaking and volt was below 3v.
This battery was replaced when I got the rig in 2000 and that battery had powder
starting to show.
This time I decided to remove the battery,I  soldered leads to the studs that the 
battery attachs to and will connect them to an old computer coin type battery holder
that I have mounted on a piece of perf board, think I will do the same to the display
clock battery... and attach these to some Velcro,of course this is after the lamp 
thing is squared a way.
I had one of these memory battery's ruin a 1 year old Putyer when it leaked and ate
the traces on the Mother board.

Once I get this done can send you some pictures of what I have done from the start,
or pictures of the Obituary if I screw up.
