[Kenwood] TS-940 Display/PLL(?) Issue

Hi,

I have a Kenwood TS-940. The frequency display tracks the frequency as long as the display is changing. As son as I stop turning the knob, the display blanks. I believe that is an indicator of 'frequency out of range.' Could it be that the PLL is failing to lock? And short of looking for cold solder joints on the PLL board, is there anything else I can try first?
