Stew,
  I would check with the shipping center to be sure but doubt they will 
accept any responsibility/liability for their packing job. Also, from 
discussions regarding UPS that I have seen recently, I understand they 
do not sell 'insurance' for your items but have some other name for it 
which ends up meaning they will fight you tooth and nail to avoid paying 
damages. ...just food for thought.
