[Kenwood] USB adapter woes...

Hi all,

I have been fiddling with this USB serial adapter (which works with all
other software for programming other radios) and found something
interesting. I've not made any progress with MCP-2A (it won't read or write
to the radio). But...

If I hook up the radio com port (not control head) and use HyperTerminal
(not the best tool, but it's what I have) I can get some commands and
responses into and out of the '710.

I found that...

TT is Transmit on/off on the band that is selected
TY gives a response of K,0,3,1,0 (likely the firmware and model)
UP is up one turn of the left knob, vfo or memory
DW is down one turn...

 

Other character pairs do other things too.

I'm not going to dive too deeply into that, I'll let someone else that can
write controlling software manage that. [character case does not matter]

My point is, that the USB-serial cable is working on the control head (for
TNC and firmware updates) and in slow manual mode with the radio itself, BUT
THE MCP-2A SOFTWARE refuses to see the radio.

Ergo, it is a SOFTWARE problem, not hardware, again most likely a timing
issue. I've also tried hardware, software and no handshaking, with no
effect. Yes, I'm running version 2.01.

Ok Kenwood, fess up, and let's FIX this please! There's too many folks out
there without a serial port that need this softare to run properly.
