I have a TS520-S and a TS520. I use them as loaners to 
new hams or when someone's rig goes down. They are 
easy to work on for the most part and most parts are 
available new or used. 
However, I have had both go down due to an error on 
the operators part to operate into a bad load and the 
small cap across the antenna relay has arced over, shorted 
and makes for no output. Hard to find due to it is installed 
right on the relay contacts that cannot be seen or reached 
easily. I had to use needle nose and break it apart and 
remove it. you can install another cap in an easier place or 
leave it out.  
Otherwise, when you get it, just check the final components 
for overheating and generally check the PWB for obvious 
damage before powering it up. Both have been very reliable 
and good operating units for many years. They have survived 
many operators.
BTW, my main rig at present is an old TS530SP- I love it.
