[Kenwood] TS-930 adjustments

Hi guys,

I'm attempting to make the service manual adjustments on a project TS-930.
On page 68 of the manual, Item #8 is the procedure for settingup "SSB Slope
Tune", using a VBT-1 jig.

I have a pair of 5-pin connectors salvaged from an AM filter board, so I can
fabricate the jig as shown. However, Kenwood says to "Adjust VBT-1 f VR to
obtain waveform shown at right.". What is this adjustment and where do I
find it?

Can anyone explain just what and how this step is accomplishing?

I've also read service bulletin #873, "TS-930 CW VBT". It's supposed to be a
simplified alignment method when the VBT-1 jig isn't available.

Any experience as to which method is preferable?
