[Kenwood] Re: 940S intermittant problem

I am not sure if this is relevant but I have the 930S and at times the 
display would go out. It would do this either at power up or after the rig 
had been on for hours. This was a known problem with the 930S. The problem 
was the digital board. At the time of manufacture there were cold solder 
joints. Yaesu advised its customers to resolder specific points on the 
board. This was not a final solution. In time the board started to become 
brittle due to the heat within the rig and the display would again disappear 
and one had to resolder those points.

Now there is a company called Piexx who made a digital board for the 930S 
which eliminated the disappearing display. This board had a chip or two 
also. It also gave computer control and more memories. I purchased it and 
never had another problem with the disappearing freq. display. You may want 
to contact them to see if this is available for the 940S. This may or may 
not be your problem but wanted to pass this info along so others may 
benefit.
